I work in a virtual office. There is no real MobileBurn headquarters; Michael and I work from home offices. We communicate with the contract writers via email, and with each other predominately via instant messaging. While it wouldn’t really be possible to get all employees under one roof, due to the fact that we are all over the world, I don’t think we would need an office regardless. We still have meetings and we still have a lot of contact.

Could this be the way that all office-like positions are finally heading? Really, to what purpose does a large office building provide? I understand that to companies that need a walk-in presence, an office is a necessity, but I have worked at other places that would benefit from a virtual office as well.

I quite regularly work in shorts and a t-shirt while sitting on my lounge with my notebook computer (I’m not convinced on a table yet, Scoble), and I love it.
