Post, Posting, and Posted

I’m terribly sorry about the lack of posting the last couple of days. I’m in Singapore at the moment for CommunicAsia 2006. Regular posting will resume in a couple of days – in the mean time, I’m posting a lot of photos to MobileBurn. Remaining photos I don’t post to MB will be posted here.

I used the word ‘post’ or a derivative of it five times in that last paragraph, not including the title.

T-Mobile Sidekick 3

To answer the people that have been pumping me for info on the new Sidekick 3 – I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you any specifics. Two things I will tell you though, is you will know all before the end of the month, and MobileBurn will be the first with a review of the device.

LG KG800 ‘Chocolate’ Unboxing

KG800 Unboxing 05The new LG KG800 ‘Chocolate’ phone showed up today, and while I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, I thought I would take some pictures of the incredible unboxing experience LG has provided. The black box with the pattern is made of very hard cardboard, and fastens shut with magnets. It is all very Apple like, and really makes you feel like you have something special on your hands.

The LG KG800 ships with a charger, USB cable, stereo headset with in-line music remote, a lanyard, software CD, and two batteries (standard and extended capacity) in the box.

All the photos after the jump. If anyone has any questions about the device, don’t be afraid to ask.

Windows Media Center and Orb

Edit: I should mention that I’m not getting a kick-back from Orb or affiliated with them in any way, this is just personal experience.

After we did the video demo of the Sling Media mobile beta running on a Motorola Q for MobileBurn, it got me thinking about place shifting. Things like the SlingBox aren’t available in Australia at the moment, so I didn’t really give it much more thought. Until I was contacted by the PR guy for Orb, that is.

Orb is a free (!) application for Windows boxes that will stream media over the Internet to pretty much any device you can think of. It supports WMV, Real, WinAmp, and 3GP formats, and runs though a personalized web page that works great even on small (read: mobile device) screens.

Having just received the Nokia E61, I thought I would check all this out. I loaded Orb onto my Windows Media Center box, and after a few configuration jitters, I was streaming both live TV and recorded TV to my Nokia. Orb plugs into Media Center perfectly, showing guide listings, program descriptions, everything. It also handles music and photos just as well.

If you are into place shifting, check it out, and kudos to Orb for making such a cool free application.

Nokia E61 Review

E61 1One handset that I have been very eager to get my grubby mitts on is the Nokia E61. This is Nokia’s first bar-style handset with a QWERTY keypad, and has a spec sheet that certainly aims to impress. Lucky me, the UPS man showed up on my doorstep this morning with a package containing a shiny new E61, click on to read my initial impressions/review, and post any questions you may have in the comments.

Random Things

Things have been hectic around the global HQ this last week or so, and I have hardly had the time to scratch my left ear – which has been surprisingly itchy lately.

On the MobileBurn side of things, I have reviews for the LG M6100 handset and the Motorola H300 Bluetooth headset in my to-do pile, which I aim to post during this week. The boss man has gone away on vacation for the week, so I’ll be stepping up again to look after the castle.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Nokia E61, which should finally be showing up tomorrow (Monday). I use a lot of phones, but this is one I’m really looking forward to putting through its paces. Expect a mini-review to be posted here on Monday night or Tuesday morning.

I recently got well and truly put in my place in a conversation about the Motorola V3i m. Yes, that ‘m’ at the end is intentional, as is the space after the V3i part. You see, a month or so ago I got word of a Motorola V3im (no space) for the UK market, which is a V3i with iTunes built in. When I queried Motorola about this, as it was a model designation that I had not heard before, they claimed it didn’t exist. As you can probably guess though, it does, but it is a V3i with an ‘m’ variant, not a whole new model, so the PR people weren’t aware of it. To make matters worse, you can also get the plain V3i with iTunes, making the ‘m’ version superfluous anyway. So in summary, yes there is a V3i m, but no there is not a V3im. Thanks, Motorola.
