Burn the RAZR

I have decided, after seeing so many copycat devices released, that I wish the Motorola RAZR had never been invented.

I know, its harsh, but the release of the RAZR has taken all originality out of slim folder-style handset design. I saw lots of different RAZR-like devices at 3GSM this month, and I think it all accumulated after writing my snapshot of the Samsung SGH-Z510. That snapshot was actually much harsher in its first copy compared to what actually got published, as I can’t be overly rude on MobileBurn – I don’t have that restriction here.

I send this message to handset designers: burn all the RAZRs around you, and try, try, try to wipe the image of the little silver handset that could out of your head. I want to see some original designs, not crappy rip-offs.

PSP Gets 4GB Flash, Digital Camera

MobileMag is reporting on an update to the Sony PSP, the PSP2 as it is calling it, which adds some tasty features while leaving the core system without change.

Probably the most interesting feature that the update is rumored to have is 4GB of NAND flash memory, but in addition to this, the PSP2 may have an internal digital camera – though there is no word on resolution. The PSP2 is rumored to also come in at a quarter-inch thinner than its predecessor.

Switching to slow(er) gear: NTP vs. RIM

There has been so much talk and anticipation over a ruling on the RIM/NTP patent infringement case, and what has it amounted to so far? U.S. District Judge James Spencer deciding against issuing an immediate ruling and instead saying he would take the matter under advisement, and release an order on the damages before the injunction.

I think that this case might just be one of the biggest anti-climaxes in recent history. Not only has RIM announced and demonstrated a work-around for its Blackberry service that does not infringe on RIM’s (invalid) patients, even the courts are just stuffing around thinking about it. If we do ever get a ruling, I think it will most likely be in RIM’s favor anyway.

So everyone calm down, and let the preceding take their course – it will all be good in the end anyway.

Painless Conversion…

That was all pretty painless. I have converted old posts from B2evo with some PHP magic, and it all worked well. My only problems at the moment are the category post totals didn’t get set, so I can’t list how many posts per category, and I am having a small problem with the category list in Internet Explorer.

So all in all, we’re sitting pretty good (fingers being crossed as we speak). I would like to thank Atariboy for the suggestion and special offer for Dreamhost, I am loving what I see so far – and no, I don’t mind you making a little money from the referral.

Rough Waters

I’m currently transitioning to new HTTP and Database servers, and in the process switching from B2evo to WordPress. You know the old developer saying of never changing more than one thing at a time? Well…
